Lip Blush Pre-Care
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT
Cold Sore or Fever Blisters (Herpes Simplex Virus 1) Prevention
-
If you have a history of cold sores OR you suspect you have ever had a cold sore in the past OR you are unsure, it is recommended that you obtain a prescription for an antiviral medication and begin taking them 1-2 days prior to the procedure and a few days after the procedure as instructed by your doctor. This is critical in the prevention of cold sore outbreak on your lips post-procedure. Outbreak of cold sores may result in pigment loss and uneven healed lip color.
-
If you have a cold sore outbreak, please wait at least 3 weeks after complete healing before getting your lip blush procedure.
Exfoliate, Moisturize, and Hydrate
-
Two days prior to your appointment, exfoliate your lips daily with a gentle lip scrub and apply a good lip balm or Aquaphor to keep them moisturized. If you can’t buy a lip scrub, you can make a simple home lip scrub (mixture of coconut oil, honey and coarse brown sugar).
-
Please do NOT show up to your appointment with chapped/dry/crusted lips or you will be sent home and your deposit will be forfeited. Dry lips cannot be tattooed as it will not take the pigment well. They will be more sensitive and thus, will result in poor retention. Moisturized lips will allow maximum pigment absorption and less scabbing.
-
Drink more water! This will help keep your lips well hydrated and reduce dryness.
To help prevent bleeding, sensitivity and poor pigment retention, please adhere to the Pre-care instructions below:

Lip Blush Aftercare
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Day 1: Immediately after the procedure, color will be bright and vibrant. Lips may feel tight, swollen, and tender to touch. Lips will produce lymph fluid that needs to be wiped clean and moisturized.
Day 2: Color is darker today. Lips are drier and more tender. Swelling should subside. There may be a burning sensation similar to that of a sunburn. Moisturize frequently to minimize discomfort and thick scabbing.
Days 3-4: Lips will feel very dry and tight. They may feel itchy, but do not rub or scratch them. Scabs will begin to form, lift, then peel. Allow the scabs to lift and peel off on their own. Do not pick at the scabs! Again, keep the lips moisturized.
Days 5-10: Lips are still dry. Most of the peeling should be finished, but there may be some minor peeling. Color has faded significantly, but don’t panic, this is normal. The color will resurface in about 6 weeks.
Weeks 8-12: Touch-Up Time!
